Add colour to your life . . .

Hi everyone! It’s Mr. Chapman! I am so happy that so many people replied to my blog last time and I hope to hear from more of you this time. Many of you will know that one of Mr. Chapman’s hobbies is painting. I paint in my spare time, and painting makes me relax. A piece of paper or a canvas is where I can set my mind free, where anything is possible.

Here is an example of one of my paintings, I love to draw and paint cars. This car is called a “Ford GT40”. It is a very famous car and I think it is very beautiful. What do you think?

Every painting starts with a picture or an idea. The first thing I do is to draw the object onto a piece of paper or a canvas. This time I am painting a Ferrari, which is one of my favourite cars. This part can take a lot of time, but it is very important, because if the drawing is bad, then the painting will be bad.

It is also very important to have the correct materials to paint. I enjoy painting with water colours. What type of paint do you use?
Sometimes Mr. Chapman likes to save money, and use things he can find at home. In this picture you can see I am using my cup to hold water for the paints. I don’t think it will taste very nice.

The next step is painting! This is really fun, but you must take your time! I spent two hours painting this car. Do you think it looks nice?

What do you think I should paint next?

Mr. Isaac's Safari Adventure!

This summer I went to a safari park. A safari park is like a zoo, but you drive around in your car. It was great fun. I sat in my car with my friend Anna. We listened to music as we visited the animals in the safari park.

It was amazing to see the animals close to the car. Here you can see a wild dog which is next to my car. I wanted to open the car door and stroke it but I could not because it was too dangerous.

We also saw some buffalo really close to the cars. I was scared that they might try to turn over the cars.

In the safari I saw many animals. My favourite animals to see were the lions. They were really beautiful.

At times my trip was a bit scary though. When we were driving in our car a camel came and stood in front of us. I thought it might try to sit on the car a swash us! I’m glad it didn’t!

We also got to feed the animals. We had to put food on our hands and then open the window. We held out our hands with our fingers bent backwards so the animals would not bite them. Then the animals came over to the car window and ate the food from our hands. It felt very warm and slimy. It did not feel very nice at all but it was good to try a new experience.

After the visit to the safari park we went for lunch. Seeing all those animals eating from my hand made me feel very hungry.

Have you been a safari park?

If you have not, would you like to go?

Would you feed an animal like I did at the safari park?

Write back to me on my blog and let me know what you think!

Discover Nature in Hong Kong

Hello everybody, I hope you all had a good summer. I am very excited to be back to teach you all this year. We already have some fun English activities planned for you all.

This month our theme is “Discover Nature” so my blog is about how you can discover nature in Hong Kong.

One of my favourite things about Hong Kong is how you can get close to nature even in the big city. You can go to the beach or hike up a mountain.

There are also lots of parks and nature reservations such as the Hong Kong Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai and Kadoorie Farm near Tai Po.

Here are some unusual animals you can see in Hong Kong:

Pink dolphin

Porcupine

Leopard cat

Chinese Pangolin

Otter

Fruit bat

Romer’s tree frog

Bamboo snake

Spoonbill

Butterfly

This is a site all about wildlife. http://kids.wwf.org.hk/lang/en

Here is a British site with some ideas of ways children can discover nature. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/17693814

Please post your own ideas about how to discover nature in Hong Kong!

Hi ! My name is Mr Chapman!

Hi everyone! My name is “Mr. Chapman”. I come from Essex in England. I was born in England and I only know English! So if you see me in school, remember that I do not know any Chinese.

I have a mum, a dad, an older brother and a younger brother. My mum and my older brother live in England. My brother works in a bank. My dad and my younger brother live in Hong Kong. My dad is a mechanic and fixes cars.

I have a very big family in Hong Kong and in England. I have 6 uncles, and aunties.  Here is a picture of me and my family. We are eating cake because it was my birthday. My mum cooks a lot of tasty food. I enjoy eating cake and desserts. What do you like to eat? Do you have a favorite food?

I enjoy travelling, and this year I have been to Taiwan and to Holland. They were both beautiful places and I think everyone should go there to take a look. In this picture I am standing next to big letters in the city called Amsterdam. It is a lovely city and the people there are very kind!

I enjoy living in Hong Kong and there are many interesting places I can visit. I love eating, and I can find a lot of different food in Hong Kong.

Is there anywhere in Hong Kong you think I should visit?

One of my hobbies is to draw cars. I was always drawing cars when I was a small child, and I still do it today! I can draw many different cars like sports cars and race cars. If you are interested in drawing cars you can come and find me, and I can teach you! What is your hobby?

Here is a picture from when I was in Primary school. Can you see where I am in the picture? I look forward to getting to know everyone. Remember to say “Hi!” if you see me in recess and visit us in the English Fun Planet!

A Solar Eclipse

A Solar Eclipse

What is a Solar Eclipse?
As seen from the Earth, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun.

The image above shows what we can see from the Earth. The moon slowly goes infront of the sun to block it.

Here we can see how the Moon blocks the Sun raises path, which casts a shadow on the Eath.

When was the last Solar Eclipse in Hong Kong?
Annular solar eclipse visible in Hong Kong is a very rare astronomical phenomenon. The last one occurred in 1958.

When can I see the next Solar Eclipse in Hong Kong?
An annular solar eclipse will occur on May 21 (Monday, 2012) and it will be visible in Hong Kong if the weather permits.

What time does it start?
The eclipse will already be in progress when the sun rises that morning. The duration of annular totality (from totality begins to totality ends) will be 3 minutes 26 seconds, longer than the annular totality in 1958, which lasted only 1 minute 17 seconds."

How do I view this?
You should never look directly at the sun with naked eyes or through a telescope in order to avoid severe damages to their eyes.
A safer method is to project the sun's image through a pinhole or a telescope onto a piece of white paper or cardboard and view the projected image.

After Monday is there another Solar Eclipse?
This answer is yes, but after this one, there will be none in the next three centuries. That is 300 years, so if you can watch it try to.

Enjoy the Solar Eclipse. I hope you get to see it, even though it is really early in the morning.

The Cat Café

by Miss Amy

This weekend I went to a café with a difference. In this café there was food, of course, but there were also… cats! There were about ten cats in the café that you could stroke and play with. Some had long hair, some had short hair, some were thin and some were fat but they were all cute and fluffy! I love cats so I was delighted.

Even some of the food is cat-shaped!

The cat café is good for people who like cats but cannot have a pet cat of their own. For example, when I lived in England I had a pet cat but now my apartment is too small.

After I had been to the cat café I started thinking. The café was fun for me, but was it fun for the cats? Cats need to sleep a lot at night and during the day, so maybe they get annoyed with people stroking them all the time. I wondered if the cats liked living at the café or not.

Can you spot the cat?

Now I am interested to hear what you students think. Do you have a pet cat? Is it friendly? Do you think it would like to live in a café with people playing with it all day?

The cats can walk about and climb on the tables.

I also want to know if you have ever been to a cat café. Did you like it? Did you think the cats were happy?

What do you think about cat cafes? Do you think they are good for the cats or not?

Please tell me what you think.

Hey everybody,

Welcome back. I hope you have all had a good Christmas. What have you been up to this Christmas? Did you go anywhere, see anything or just stay at home? Please let me know by writing on my 'Blog'.

As you will have noticed. I have not been in school for quite a while. Well I am now back J
That is right they are called crutches.
But where have I been? And why do I now have two sticks to help me walk? Does anybody know what they are called.

I hurt my knee in an accident, which saw me end up in hospital. It was really painful and so I had to stay in hospital and then at home for around 3 weeks. I was a very brave boy thought and did not cry.

Lot's of teachers and friends came to see me, they made me very happy.

On the left is a picture of me in hospital.
The doctors and nurses were very helpful.

Despite being hurt, i still manged to go home for Christmas. I was very excited to see my mum and dad.

We did lot's of fun things together. We played board games, relaxed, ate lots of food, went shopping and I even manged to squeeze in two football games.

I went to watch two Blackpool football games. It was very exciting. I went with my family and friends.

Fun Fact:
Did you know that the only player ever to play in England from Hong Kong, played for Blackpool FC.

As I mentioned, my family and I ate lots of food this Christmas. Here is a picture of my family Christmas dinner. Wow I can still taste and smell those gorgeous smells. What did you eat for Christmas?

Well that's all for now. Remember to write back.
Mr. Luke

Cambodia is a country in Asia near Thailand.

Every year I go to Cambodia to see my friends who live in a children’s home. A children’s home is a place where children live if they have no mums or dads. This sounds sad but my friends are happy because they live with their brothers, sisters and friends. They see them every day.

When I visit my friends I teach them English like I do in our school.

We also play lots of games and have fun.

It is nice to see my friends but Cambodia is a very hot place; even hotter than Hong Kong!

Sometimes we go swimming in the lake to cool down. It is great fun. We have swimming races and splash each other in the water.

I will go and visit my friends again this year. I look forward to my trip.
